Echo Australia in the East!

Hello there,

My name is Debra. I work as a community work consultant for Echo Australia. Our organisation is involved in supporting and providing volunteer opportunities for those who are unemployed. We are interested in offering eligible people work experience based placements in the local community, or a training program, which could offer skills in diverse as computing, administration, learning tradeskills and other areas, such as horticulture and gardening.

At Echo Australia Inc., we run numerous work experience activities in the Work for the Dole programme, aimed at providing job seekers with meaningful work experience that will help them find employment.  Work for the Dole enables participants to create new networks, obtain current referees, update skills and gain self confidence.

Work for the Dole isn’t only for people on Newstart or Youth Allowance.  Recipients of Parenting Payments, the Disability Support Pension and those on the Personal Support Programme can volunteer to participate in the program.

The current programs we have include:

  • Ringwood Assist - a computer based website and graphic design program where clients can learn different skills in these areas. Located in Ringwood.
  • Build, design and harvest - clients can learn general nursery, horticulture and gardening skills. Located in Mt Evelyn.
  • Building a community Hub - clients can rehabilitate and restore a community based location, and also work with disabled and/or elderley people in the process. Involves a lot of outdoor work.
  • Skill Connection, and Skill Link - these brokered projects offer participants the chance of doing placements in local community organisations including working in local schools, gardening, retail, trade skills, administration and office work, reception and customer service, child care and work experience in other associated areas.
